Forth Road Bridge Closure

EMERGENCY UPDATE: FORTH ROAD BRIDGE CLOSURE
Please be aware that a serious incident involving an overturned HGV has resulted in the closure of the Forth Road Bridge. Teams are working to recover the vehicle, which needs to be removed by crane. However, strong winds and severe weather are likely to hamper the removal of the vehicle, which has also caused some damage to barriers on the bridge. Lane 2 is likely to remain closed while this damage is repaired.
Recovery crews are working as quickly as possible to re-open Lane 1 in both directions to allow traffic to return to the bridge, allow further delays cannot be ruled out due to the severe weather and ongoing repair work.
Diversion routes have been established, but the closure is causing delays and heavy traffic on other routes and the public are being asked to avoid these routes or delay their journey if possible.
Southbound traffic is currently being diverted from the carriageway at Admiralty and onto the A985 to Kincardine for onward travel. Northbound traffic on approach to the FRB is being diverted off the A90 at Echline and can travel along the A904 to join the M9 at Junction 2 or be turned around to travel to M9 J1a.
"Mark Arndt, Amey’s Operating Company Representative for the Forth Road Bridge said: "We’re managing an incident involving an overturned HGV after the driver ignored signs warning that the bridge was closed to high sided vehicles. The bridge is closed in both directions and we are doing everything we can to reopen the route as soon as possible."
"It’s most likely that we’ll be able to reopen one lane of the northbound carriageway later today however we will need a crane to remove the HGV from the southbound carriageway, and this work is highly dependent on the prevailing wind speeds. We are continuing to monitor the forecast and have team mobilised and ready to respond as soon as it is safe to do so but it is very likely the bridge will remain closed through the morning peak."
"We know that closing the bridge has a serious impact on people’s journeys and it’s regretful that this situation has arisen."
