A702 North of Biggar High Street

15 August 2019

Overnight Maintenance

Work to improve the A702, north of Biggar High Street at Hillview, will take place overnight from Thursday 15th August until Friday 30th August 2019.

The work will take place between 8pm and 6am, each night. The road will operate as normal outwith these times, and work will pause over the weekend of Friday 23rd August to Monday 26th August.

This scheme represents the latest part of a £1million investment to improve the A702 around Biggar and will benefit around 5,500 vehicles using this section of road each day. It will improve the condition of the carriageway and associated drainage, increase access for residents with mobility issues and reduce road noise.

The work requires full night-time closures of the A702 Edinburgh Road carriageway between Broughton Road and approximately 300m north of the A72 Junction. There will be a signed diversion route in operation for trunk road traffic and local access will be maintained throughout.

Northbound traffic will leave the A702 at Maidencots Roundabout and travel via the A73 to Hyndford Bridge. From here, vehicles will follow the A70 through Carstairs and at Carnwath will follow the A721 to re-join the A702 at the Melbourne crossroads.

Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable. For the current status of all road schemes please visit our website: http://scottishtrunkroadsse.amey.co.uk/current-works/

This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, Stagecoach, local residents, elected members and South Lanarkshire Council.
