A68 Earlston - Birkenside

3 April 2019

A68 Earlston to Birkenside

A scheme to resurface the A68 from Earlston to Birkenside will take place overnight, between 8pm and 6am, from Wednesday 3rd April 2019 for 15 nights.

This scheme, with a value of around £650,000, will benefit road users by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

This work requires a full closure of the A68 at this location, with a signed diversion route in operation.

Northbound traffic will exit the A68 at Earlston to join the A6105, and travel through Huntlywood to Gordon, and from here will join the A6089 Station Road. Vehicles will then travel north to join the A697 and continue through Thirlestane to Carfraemill Roundabout. From here, motorists can rejoin the northbound A68.

Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion route, in the opposite direction.

Local access will be maintained for properties within the extent of the scheme.

This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, Skene Group (Soutra Mains Quarry), Borders Buses, the emergency services, Midlothian Council and Scottish Borders Council.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
