A1 at Bankton (southbound)
13 September 2019
ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE ON A1 SOUTHBOUND AT BANKTON COMMENCING 13th SEPTEMBER
Essential maintenance will take place overnight on the southbound A1 at Bankton, from Friday 13th September till Tuesday 17th September 2019. The works will require full closure of the southbound lane between Dolphingstone Junction and Bankton Junction from 8pm each evening. Both lanes will be re-opened to traffic on the Saturday morning at 8am. On Sunday morning, Lane 2 southbound will be re-opened to traffic at 8am, while Lane 1 will remain closed throughout the day. Traffic management will be removed, and the road fully opened by 6am on Monday 16th September.
This scheme, with a value of £247,000, will benefit around 20,000 vehicles using this section of the A1 each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway, and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
The work requires full overnight closures of the southbound A1 carriageway between Dolphingstone Junction and Bankton Junction, with a signed diversion in operation. The road will operate as normal outwith these times.
Traffic will exit the southbound A1 at Dolphingstone Junction to join the A199. From here, vehicles will travel via the B1361 to the A198 and the southbound Bankton Junction on-slip road to re-join the southbound A1.
This scheme has been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, the emergency services, bus operating companies and East Lothian Council.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
