Keep Scotland Beautiful: Week of Action

12 May 2018

Keep Scotland Beautiful are spearheading a Week of Action to tackle the problem of roadside litter.

The Week runs from 12th - 20th May and will be spreading the message: Give your litter a lift, take it home.

Volunteers around the country are cleaning up Scotland as part of KSB's Clean Up Scotland Spring Clean, and they are calling for everyone to make a special effort to raise awareness of roadside litter. The aim is to make a long-term impact on the cleanliness of Scotland's roads.

If you want to play a part, visit the Week of Action web page and find out how you can get involved:

Recently, Amey carried out a new approach to litter picking on the A720 bypass. With traffic moving more slowly during the morning peak, this was considered a safer time to have operatives on site carrying out litter picking. The six operatives were visible to the public passing on their morning commute when normally at high speeds they might be easy to ignore.

The work was signed with "Picking Litter Risks Workers Lives" during the exercise.

73 bags of rubbish were collected, over a 2.5hr period  between 6.30am and 9am.
