A68 Galadean Bridge: embankment works

Work is being carried out to remove sediment, which has gathered forming an ‘island’ upstream of the Galadean Bridge on the A68. The island has altered the course of the river and is causing the erosion of the West riverbank, as well as the Northwest embankment on the A68.

This work is not taking place on the actual trunk road network, but is intended to protect the associated riverbank and areas around the bridge. The work, which has been licenced by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), was delayed due to severe weather brought by the Beast from the East. However, work has now started to correct the river flow. A second phase of work will restore the riverbank. This work is not expected to cause any disruption on the main trunk road, except from some brief closures to allow plant equipment onto and off the site, as required.
